WSOP 2017: Negreanu’s fail and WCGRider’s win

The main poker event of the year – World Series of Poker 2017 – runs for over a week now. This time it has one significant change – no more November Nine! Poker gods have finally heard our players! This year Main Event is going to end like any big tournament there is. The level of interest towards it won’t decrease due to a gigantic break between the main part of event and final table. Amen.

We won’t be telling you much about the winners of various events below. This is too boring. Let us just highlight the most notable moments of the series. In particular: Daniel Negreanu’s try to win 7th bracelet (he almost did it!), Douglas Polk’s win in $111,111 High Roller for One Drop, Colossus III.

One Drop Extravaganza: the most expensive poker tournament in history
One Drop Extravaganza: the most expensive poker tournament in history

One of the grandest events in the poker history already started (on October, 13th). At least if we’re talking of charity events. Almost a week of high roller tournaments with buy-ins of €10,000 to €1,000,000 and cash games with rocket high stakes and €300/hour rake.

The upcoming event is exclusively for businessmen and recreational players, no professionals. This decision was made by the organizer of the event Guy Laliberte there were more pros than amateurs on the latest One Drop event, so the latter had no point in participating in such an expensive event against opponents this strong.

Like in good old days…

The time of the cult poker TV shows where the best players had million buy-ins are long gone. But the participants of those games are still there – in the best clubs of Las Vegas. Who would have thought, it is summer of 2016, and Negreanu, Hansen, Harman, Antonius, Brunson and other legends are playing in Bellagio at $2000-$4000 stakes.

The time didn’t go backwards; those games are now closed to public and TV viewers. Although players doesn’t try to keep any secrets.

Daniel Negreanu in his blog told another story of the big poker world and also remembered the incredibly tough game where he lost his first million of dollars.

Shady secrets of High Stakes, Negreanu’s revelations

Daniel Negreanu decided to come back to high stakes world this year and faced known to every Russian problem: those players “with connections” have more rights than others. Love to the private high stakes games came from Macao and took over all the popular rooms in Las Vegas.

Last year Daniel hasn’t played a single hand at live cash tables. In the beginning of the year the Canadian set a goal: to play at least 200 hours and year at least $250k.

The first playing session of mixed games took place in Aria, where Negreanu was invited personally. Blinds were $300-$600 with $600 antes. There were quite strange exemplars of the game besides traditional poker formats.

One of them is called PLO Flip. Each player contributes $10k, gets dealt four cards and they deal the board cards. The best hand wins. As easy as a pie, no skill involved.

You’ve been waiting for it, and here it is. World Series Final Table! This year there is too much tragedy in it. Canadian pro Daniel Negreanu took 11th place in the Main Event of the World Series of Poker for the second time in his life. It’s such a hard thing to handle!

First successful poker TV channel: reality or fantasy?
First successful poker TV channel: reality or fantasy?

First 24/7 poker TV channel is going to start its work by the end of the year (perhaps, even in autumn). It is going to broadcast from Las Vegas, NV. Antonio Esfandiari and Daniel Negreanu are already among the broadcasters. What is going to be aired and does it all make sense?

The idea of full scale first 24/7 poker TV channel seems a little futuristic right now. We got used to watch poker TV shows and big series online reports in Internet. What can be broadcasted whole day long?

Well, that’s the question many people trying to answer. American TV channel Poker Central keeps lots of things in secret, but we can easily guess what’s what.

Who needs to be barred on WSOP. Also $500,000 Super High Roller…

In his latest (and highly controversial) blog post Daniel Negreanu makes list of players in some way connected in different poker discussions. He gives green light to participate in World Series 2015 to some disproves that to others. And former are the majority.

There is a lot of Negreanu-related news during recent months. Or even more so during recent years. The famous tournament and cash games professional became the voice of poker community. He has to say something on all the topics. His opinion is always being discussed.

Despite how loud Negreanu’s sayings are, the often seem one-sided. Mister Negreanu represents PokerStars. And many of his words and expressions could be explained by this fact.

The Colman effect or why the stars keep silent
The Colman effect or why the stars keep silent

A young 24-year-old American Daniel “mrGR33N13” Colman won more than $15,000,000 in the tournament $1M Big One For One Drop 2014. Afterwards the grinder added another $6,000,000 to his bankroll. But even now Colman refuses to talk to the media.

After his staggering success in the tournament with $ 1,000,000 buy-in, his flat refusal to give a detailed interview and his stirring post on the TwoPlusTwo forum, where Colman condemns modern society and poker itself, the new poker hero has been viewed as a renegade.

At least by most people, and especially by the media.
